Match Report

Japan pinned us in our half right from the kick off. Our tactical kicking was bad and did not find touch on a few occasions. This resulted in Japan running more plays against us in the 1st half.

Our forwards did well to keep Japans pack at bay, but missed tackles & slow reaction cost us 3 tries in the 1st half. Japan led by 15 – 0 at half time.

From the restart, we tightened up our act and managed to put pressure on Japan from all departments. But a bad clearance kick allowed them to score another try from a lineout outside our 22m. From then on, the play was locked down in mid field as we defended our hearts out against a bigger and more experienced side.

Our defensive pressure paid off in the 40th min, as we turned over a ball in our 22m, and launched what must have been the try of the day by running the ball out wide thru 5 pairs of hands to the other side of the pitch, allowing our winger to run 80m to score under the posts. Final score Spore 7 – Japan 20.

This was by far our best performance in the tournament, and the team did Singapore proud.
