Match Report


1st Half 5 - 5


We received the ball from the kick off, and did well to run several phases against the AA team. Play was pretty much confined to the middle of the park till we had a break from their 10m where we had great support from broken play to score the opening try of the game at the 5m down on the right side of the field.


From the restart, AA came back and managed to pressure us and force a knock on. The ensuing scrum saw them dominating play with slow ball options and pick & go’s to run several phases deep into our 22m. They also managed to earn several penalties which resulted in their forwards running in their equalizing try in the last minute of the first half. Their try was also unconverted, which left both team tied at halftime with 5 points each.


2nd Half 22 - 10

The second half saw AA pounding us right from the restart, and they managed another try from forwards in the 3rd minute of the game, which was also unconverted. From the ensuing kick off, we dominated the play with quick ball out to our backline which saw us putting in two quick tries in the 18th & 21st minute. Our final try of the game came from stretching they play across the park, where we scored our 4th try. This was the only converted try in the whole game which saw us leading by 22 – 10. From then on, it was all out defence as the referee sent out 2 of our players with 10mins left on the clock. We rolled in our rookies and they did well to defend our tryline against the continuous onslaughts by AA’s huge forward pack. The game ended when we forced a knock on from AA, with the final score standing at 22 – 10 in our favor.

Summary


This game was played just 2 weeks after the WNRC, and it was a good performance from the select side considering that we only had 1 team run an hour before kick off. Playing against the AA was good in terms that we learnt where our major weaknesses are, and we can work on them in preparation for ARFU in October 07.


The select squad was selected based on performance in the WNRC. We will factor in our key weaknesses as part of our remediation process to further improve our performance.
